Mineral water

Mineral water

Definition

Mineral water is water from a mineral spring that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. Mineral water may be categorized as “still” or “sparkling” (carbonated/effervescent) according to the presence or absence of added gases. Traditionally, mineral waters were used or consumed at their spring sources, often referred to as “taking the waters” or “taking the cure” at places such as spas, baths, or wells. The term spa was used for a place where the water was consumed and bathed in-bath where the water was used primarily for bathing, therapeutics, or recreation- and well where the water was to be consumed. Today, it is far more common for mineral water to be bottled at the source for distributed consumption. Traveling to the mineral water site for direct access to the water is now uncommon, and in many cases not possible because of exclusive commercial ownership rights. There are more than 4,000 brands of mineral water commercially available worldwide.

Technology

The manufacturing process of raw water makes it pure by passing it through the sand filter and activated carbon filter. surplus hardness is reduced by softener and the softened water is passed through micron filters to make it sparkling clear. To make it bacteria free, water is passed through ultraviolet light radiation. Packing of the water is done by Bottling System consisting of the facilities of bottle rinsing, filling and capping. Finally, the bottled mineral water is packed in the cartons.

The raw water that should be processed is collected in tanks. A known quantity is pumped into the above tank where the water is dozed with alum for coagulation with heavy metals or insoluble matters. After coagulation, the water is allowed to settle for an hour. The water is then passed through sand filters for trapping of undisclosed impurities. Then, it is passed through carbon filters for removal of odor, color, and also for de-chlorination. It is then passed through a series of micro fillers comprising 5-micron, 1 micron, and 0.4-micron filters followed by ultraviolet disinfection system for terminal disinfection. Packing is done in PET bottles of 1-liter capacity through an automatic rinsing, filling, and capping machine fitted with an ozone generator. After capping, the bottles are shrink-wrapped (optional) and packed in corrugated boxes of one dozen each.

Uses

They are pivotal for humans because the organism cannot produce them, so it is necessary to have a regular intake from foods and water. The availability of minerals from food is less than that of the mineral water because food minerals are bound to complex molecules that can limit their absorbability. Instead, in water, minerals are present as free ions.

  1. Promotes Bone Health:

Mineral water is rich in calcium. Calcium is the most important mineral involved in bone formation. Thus, the daily consumption of mineral water ensures a daily supplement of calcium in the body. It strengthens human bones, teeth and even nails against damage.

  1. Regulates Body Fat:

Mineral water is an essential fat-free supplement that offers a good amount of fat metabolizing minerals. It helps in fat breakdown, which is essential in burning a few extra layers of fat in the body. In simple terms, mineral water can make you slimmer and leaner. It is any day a better choice over aerated drinks and soda. Regular consumption of mineral water can surely help in weight management.

  1. Blood Pressure Management:

Mineral water is also a boon for people suffering from the problem of fluctuating levels of blood pressure. It is composed of magnesium and calcium. Both these minerals are actively involved in the electrolytic process of the human brain and body. This electrolytic balance is very essential for the maintenance of blood pressure in humans.

  1. Reduces Cardiac Diseases:

Mineral water has the power of metabolizing fat from the human body. This ensures that the production of bad cholesterol is hampered in the body. Bad cholesterol or LDL gets deposited in the adipose tissues and in and around the blood capillaries. It does not circulate with the blood and narrows the openings of capillaries. This increases blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks in heart patients. Mineral water hampers the growth and accumulation of LDL in capillaries. It reopens the blocked capillary pathways. Thus, it reduces the risk of cardiac diseases as well.

  1. Reduces Acidity:

Mineral water contains sulfates. Sulfates are catalysts for the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes like lipase and amylase. These digestive enzymes ease problems like bloating and constipation. It further lessens the coagulation of toxins in the duodenum and intestines. As a result, the problem of acidity is nullified with proper digestion.

  1. Increases Physical Alertness:

Mineral water is a mixture of different minerals like magnesium and potassium. These minerals are required for the proper growth and functioning of human muscles. They improve the response rate of muscles. The muscles become more supportive of contraction and expansion. Hence, mineral water increases physical alertness and the overall well-being of an individual.

  1. Increases Mental Alertness:

Potassium is also called as a memory charging mineral. It is an active constituent of the electrolyte in the brain. Hence, mineral water is a good option for boosting one’s memory and concentration. It increases mental alertness and hampers mental fatigue and lethargy.

  1. Increases Skin’s Sheen:

Mineral water is a fresh source of skin-friendly silica particles. Silica is the natural secret to a beautiful skin. It triggers the production of collagen in human skin. Increased collagen formation leads to reduced wrinkles, dark spots, and dullness. It makes the skin blemish free, moist, supple, and glowing.

  1. Eases Arthritis:

Mineral water is also an amazing therapy for inflammation and pain caused due to arthritis. Its active minerals and compounds reduce inflammation related to rheumatoid arthritis. The anti-inflammatory benefits of mineral water also reduce the swelling in joints caused by this severe bone degenerative disorder.

  1. Makes Hair Stronger:

Hair health is an issue in the modern world. Pollution and the sun largely ruin hair quality. Mineral water restores the lost strength and sheen of hair by restoring the normal PH level of the scalp from within. It increases the supply of oxygen to the brain as well. This improves hair texture and imparts strength to each hair strand against damage caused due to sun and pollution.

The above-listed benefits of drinking mineral water are a must know for all health and beauty conscious people. Which mineral water benefits make it a necessity for you? Do share your feedback with us in the comments section.
